Orange juice is a nutrition powerhouse with naturally occurring vitamins and minerals and many antioxidants. We all know that orange juice contains the antioxidant vitamin C, but you may not be aware of the remarkable variety of phytonutrients orange juice contains, such as flavonoids and carotenoids. As you may know, phytonutrients are plant-derived components that are naturally occurring in certain foods and beverages like orange juice. Phytonutrients are rapidly gaining support as research uncovers more of their health promoting benefits.

The new Dietary Guidelines (2005) recommend Americans consume two cups (or four servings) of fruit per day for a 2000 calorie diet, but many people fall short of this recommendation. On average, Americans consume only one-half the recommended serving of fruit per day (four servings is recommended). An easy way for your clients to get their daily servings of fruit is to start the day with orange juice. One 8-ounce glass counts as two servings (1/2 cup=one serving). The Guidelines recommend that a majority of fruit servings should come from whole fruits.
