The new Dietary Guidelines (2005) recommend Americans consume two cups (or four servings) of fruit per day for a 2000 calorie diet, but many people fall short of this recommendation. On average, Americans consume only one-half the recommended serving of fruit per day (four servings is recommended). An easy way for your clients to get their daily servings of fruit is to start the day with orange juice. One 8-ounce glass counts as two servings (1/2 cup=one serving). The Guidelines recommend that a majority of fruit servings should come from whole fruits.
